Report of Expert Series Webinar on “Targeting energy expenditure pathways to treat obesity and T2DM”

A webinar on “Targeting energy expenditure pathways to treat obesity and T2DM” was delivered by an expert invited international speaker Dr.Sarbani Ghoshal M.Sc, MPH, PhD, Assistant Professor, Queensborough Community College, The city University of New York, USA on 12-08-2024 .

The Principal of AHS, SRMIST, Dr. K. Kumar Ebenezar, Ph.D., headed the event and the event co-ordinator, Dr.G.Rohini Ph.D., welcomed the speaker. Student coordinators for the event Ms. L. Vishnu Priya and Ms. A. Faesha Banu requested the principal of AHS to present a momento to Dr.Sarbani Ghoshal and requested her to deliver the expert talk.

Dr. Sarbani Ghoshal introduced and emphasized the importance of finding new drugs and treatments for the pandemic T2DM and its primary causative obesity. She educated students regarding the importance of insulin sensitivity, and how insulin resistance associates with obesity. Dr. Sarbani Ghoshal then lucidly presented their finding on how TNP (N2-Trifluorbenzyl). N6-(P-Nitrobenzyl) purine inhibits gain of weight and enables insulin sensitivity via the inhibition of the Inositol 6-phospho kinase pathway. She skillfully gave the students the essential basic information, and then took them to the new insights and motivated students to understand the research aspects in treating obesity, T2DM. The vote of thanks was delivered by the student coordinator Ms. Vishnu Priya III MLT.

As a follow up and culmination of the expert talk series, the student participants were asked to give a small write up of the talk, and were awarded first, second token prizes. The best write up was given to Ms. Sarnya, II MLT, and the second prize was given to Ms. Priyadharshini II MLT. All the participants who took up the competition were encouraged with appreciation gift.

On the whole, with the motive of introducing research, and lead research findings in health sciences, the event was a grand success, and many more are yet to come.
