World Patient Safety Day

The College of Allied Health Sciences, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tiruchirappalli campus as organized a program on “World Patient Safety Day – 2024” with the theme of “Improving the diagnosis for patient safety ” on 19.09.2024 at Medical college 4th floor.

The purpose of the program is to raise awareness on patient safety, promote best practices, and foster a culture of safety among healthcare providers. “Get it right, make it safe!” World Patient Safety Day is an opportunity

to raise public  awareness and foster collaboration between patients, health workers, policymakers and health care leaders to improve patient safety.

This year the theme is “Improving diagnosis for patient safety” with the slogan “Get it right, make it safe!”, highlighting the critical importance of correct and timely diagnosis in ensuring patient safety and improving health outcomes. A diagnosis identifies a patient’s health problem, and is a key to accessing the care and treatment they need. A diagnostic error is the failure to establish a correct and timely explanation of a patient’s health problem, which can include delayed, incorrect, or missed diagnoses, or a failure to communicate that explanation to the patient. all stakeholders to prioritize diagnostic safety and adopt a multifaceted approach to strengthen systems, design safe diagnostic pathways, support health workers in making correct decisions, and engage

patients throughout the entire diagnostic process.

Dr. A. Vijayan delivered the welcome address to Assistant Director, HOI, Dean and faculty members and students followed by to address the gathering Dr. R. Kirubahar, Associate professor Department of Anesthesiology and Dr. P. Manoj Kumar, Department of General Medicine was invited as a chief guest and took forward the program with their focuses on preventing and reducing risks, errors and harm that happen to patients during the provision of health care.

On behalf of this day, we conducted various competitions like – Poster presentation, Dumb charades, Drawing, and skit. The day was filled with events, engaging discussions, and meaningful interactions, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.

Finally, Dr. K. Kumar Ebenezar, Principal, College of Allied Health Sciences along with the chief guests awarded the students with momentos and Certificates. Ms. Priyadharshini to delivered the vote of thanks.
