INAUGURATION:
An outreach campaign on Bold Donor Week has been conducted from 14.06.2023 to 21.06.2023 was organized by SRM Institute of Science and Technology, College of Allied Health Sciences, and Department of Transfusion Medicine, Trichy SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre.
Day 1 (14.06.2023 10 AM to 1 PM) – Volunteers Blood Donation Camp at 1st floor, Blood Bank.
Day 2 (14.06.2023 02 AM to 4.30PM) – Trichy Airport
Day 3 (16.06.2023 10 AM to 1 PM) – Puhtur Uthamanur Village
Scope
The broad objective of the Outreach Program was to inculcate an awareness of the importance of blood donation.
Day 1 – Volunteers Blood Donation Camp at 1st floor, Blood Bank:
The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, College of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tiruchirappalli Campus organized a blood donation camp on 14.06.2023 between 10.30 am to
1.00 pm at the blood bank SRMMCHRC.
The program was started with Thamil thai valthu followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. A. Sundhararajan, Vice principal- AHS, SRMIST, who emphasized the need of Blood donation. Dr. D. Suresh, Dean of Occupational Therapy, delivered the presidential address.
A team of doctors, staff nurses, and lab technicians actively participated in the blood donation camp.
There are 5 faculty members and 30 student volunteers who donated their blood to save lives. The majority of the student volunteers were first-time donors and they felt so happy towards the participation in the camp.
The refreshment and the donation card was given to each donor. Finally, Dr. Arun, Assistant Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, Trichy SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, delivered the vote of thanks.
Day 2 –An outreach awareness program on village:
On June 16, 2023, from 10 AM to 1 PM, students and faculty from the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, College of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tiruchirappalli Campus, visit the nearby village of Putur Uthamanur to raise awareness of blood donation among the villagers. The students organize a rally on the village roads while holding cards that promote awareness. The President of Puthur Uthamanur Village extends a warm welcome to the faculty and students from SRM Institute of Science and Technology and SRM Medical College. In this way the President of Puthur Uthamanur Village organize the population of Mahatma Gandhi Rural employees, Dr. Aravindh from the department of transfusion medicine underlines the advantages of blood donation, its eligibility criteria. Some of the people rise queries regarding blood donation he clears up all the queries also clear many doubts among the general population. He also emphasized the myths and mysteries behind blood donation and save the lives of thousands of people.
The vice principal of the college of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. A. Sundhararajan, honored the president and thanked him for executing the program in the hamlet.
Day 3 Awareness Campaign in Trichy Airport:
Great initiative take by SRM Institute of Science and Technology College of Allied Health Sciences jointly organize Department of Transfusion Medicine SRM Trichy Medical College Hospital and Research Centre organized an awareness program about blood donation at Trichy Airport on 14.06.2023, 02 to 4.30 PM. The medical officer, Dr. Aravindh explains about the importance of blood donation. The involvement of airline faculties, staff members and security guards in voluntarily provide the blood to save the lives of those in need.
