We in SRM, believe in the powers of freedom, empowerment, creativity and innovation. SRMIST provides students with the state-of-the-art education in the field of Engineering and Technology, Medicine, Science and Humanities, Management, Law and Agricultural Sciences.

The community of friends and colleagues you will find here is like no other. Every day I learn from my peers and feel supported by an amazing group of colleagues. When milestones are accomplished, wedding dates are set, and children are born, there is always someone around to head over with you and celebrate. When it’s time for your first professional presentation, your oral exams, or even the “job talk,” there will be an endless number of people willing to spend as many hours as you need listening to you practice, providing you with feedback, and helping you fight with your bullets in Powerpoint (it will happen!). And if life throws you a curveball, the entire community will rally around you to offer support, guidance, and a shoulder to cry on. The SRMIST community appears when you need it and remains in the background (though always present) when you don’t. Not once have I felt I was alone while I was here.

Look around you. The people sitting in this room will be your friends and colleagues. Don’t hesitate to call upon them when you need to — personally or professionally. They will be your best source of support and they will help you make the most of your experience here. I guarantee there will be times when you wonder why you’re here; that’s natural. But the people in this room and on this campus will be there to remind you of the reasons. The relationships you develop here with the faculty, staff, and students will also help you build your career. You are all here because you want to become the movers and shakers of the future. I urge you to make this happen by meeting new people, tapping into new resources, and joining the SRMIST community. The benefits will follow you forever.

Biography

Dr. Shivakumar is an alum of Stanley Medical College where he pursued his MBBS. He further has to his credit MD from Dr. ALM PGIBMS, University of Madras. Since 2006 onwards, Dr. Shivakumar has been associated with SRMIST.
