NSS Overview

National Service Scheme (NSS) is a widely recognized and influential youth-centric program in colleges across the country. NSS was established in 1969, the year Mahatma Gandhi celebrated his birth, with the primary goal of fostering the character and personality of student youth via volunteer community service. The ideals of Mahatma Gandhi provide inspiration for the NSS’s ideological stance. “NOT ME, BUT YOU” is the NSS motto.

 

The activities of the SRMIST, Tiruchirappalli NSS mainly focus on Community Development Services, Social Services, Environmental Awareness Programs, Health Awareness Programs and Technology Transfer Programs. The NSS at SRMIST, Tiruchirppalli has guidelines to conduct various Regular and Special Camping activities.

Motto of NSS

The Motto of NSS “Not Me but You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the student’s development & appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.


Objectives of NSS

  1. Community Service:  Encouraging Students To Actively Engage In Community Service Activities, Addressing Social Issues Such As Education, Healthcare, Environmental Conservation, Rural Development, and More.
  2. Personality Development:  Providing A Platform For Students To Develop Leadership Skills, Enhance Interpersonal Communication, And Build A Strong Ethical Foundation Through Various Training Programs And Workshops.
  3. Empathy and Social Awarness:  Promoting a Sense of Empathy, Compassion, And Understanding towards the Needs and Challenges Faced By Marginalized Sections Of Society, Encouraging Students To Become Responsible Citizens.
